Sarah is a Marine Biologist with a Bachelor’s of Arts from New College, Sarasota and a Master’s of Science from Florida Tech in Melbourne. She holds two professional interpretive communication certifications from the National Association for Interpretation, as a Certified Interpretive Guide Trainer and Certified Interpretive Guide. Sarah has over fifteen years of environmental education, scientific communication, interpretation, program-building and evaluation experience. While employed with the Environmental Learning Center in Indian River County, Florida, Sarah built a thriving nature-based STEM Mentorship and Career Training Program collaborating with twelve community partners. She also has published research in the National Science Teacher Association publication Connected Science Learning on the positive outcomes of these programs for at-risk youth http://csl.nsta.org/2019/06/summer-mentorship-program/.
While employed by the Sea Turtle Conservancy at the Barrier Island Center, collaborating with the Archie Carr Working Group, she has built the Sea Turtle TECH (Technology Engineering Challenges Horizons) STEM Mentorship Program and the Conservation Career Training Programs. She uses her background in Marine Biology as a platform to connect participants with marine ecosystems and Florida wildlife to inspire stewardship, instill a sense of wonder, and enhance STEM skills to broaden career trajectories. Through collaborative educational programming she facilitates opportunities for participants to improve their confidence, leadership, interpretation and scientific communication skills. Sarah received the Florida Chapter of the Wildlife Society Outstanding Educator Award for 2019.
